The Ballet Theatre Experience

The program at Ballet Theatre uses ballet as the foundation for developing strong technique and artistic ability. Classes are taught using a positive but challenging approach that develops a healthy and life-long interest in dance. Below are brief descriptions of the current class offerings. Creative Movement

Creative Movement is the exploration of movement with the use of imagery. Children are exposed to music, movement, rhythm patterns, basic ballet vocabulary through the use of songs and games. This is a positive learning experience designed for the young child to enhance the development of large muscle coordination, hand eye coordination, spatial awareness and rhythmic awareness in a fun age appropriate atmosphere.

Pre-Ballet

Designed for the child between the ages of 5 to 7 years old. This class introduces the young dancer to ballet as a form of movement in a structured fashion. The class meets once a week for an hour. The class will move in simple, consistent and progressive movement building the vocabulary of ballet. Motor skills are developed with age appropriate lessons in a fun and positive structured environment.

Beginning Ballet

Designed to lay the foundation for ballet. This class covers the basic principles of ballet, posture and vocabulary. Movement is performed at the barre and center floor, across the floor. This class meets once a week for 90 minutes. This class promotes the practice of ballet in a fun and positive structured environment.

Intermediate Ballet

A continuation of the study of ballet, it’s vocabulary and discipline in a positive and structured environment. Each class is 90 minutes long. Ballet vocabulary is performed at the barre, center floor and across the floor. The intermediate level is practiced 3 times per week. The intermediate class will also include the basics of yoga and pilates to aid the growing dancer’s strength and flexibility. Students are encouraged to commit to the schedule in order to continue their growth at the intermediate level.

Pre-Pointe

Following the intermediate ballet class the pre pointe class is devoted to the instruction of dancing en pointe! This class is by invitation for children that are deemed age appropriate and technically developed to further continue ballet training.

Advanced Ballet

A continuation in the study of ballet as an art form. This class meets 5 days a week. Class times are a minimum of 90 minutes. The moves at a faster pace utilizing advanced concepts in the study of ballet. Prior experience is needed for placement in this class.

Adult Ballet

A class open to adults of all levels of experience. This is for adults who wish to begin, continue or return to experiencing the art of ballet on a weekly basis. It provides a good workout at a recreational pace.

Modern

For intermediate and advance students with strong ballet training. This explores modern and contemporary dance forms and technique.

Tap

For all levels of students is a wonderful, positive fun class that builds a fun work ethic towards dance. The dancers musicality, rhythm co-ordination and large muscle coordination are enhanced through this class that meets once a week.

Jazz

A high energy fast paced fun class. This class is age appropriate for each level offered. The class will have warm- up, center floor patterns and across the floor progressive movement.
